Hello Friends,

We hope this finds you well and warm.

Today is not only Giving Tuesday; it also happens to be the first birthday of Land Core’s official non-profit status! (We became a California public benefit corporation on Dec 3. 2018)

We wanted to reach out and ask you to consider donating to help us build on the work we’ve achieved thus far, expand our small but mighty team, and launch us into the new decade.

Here are some of our highlights from an incredible 2019:

  • Addressed the need for a consistent set of soil health indicators, in-field sampling methodology and lab calibration protocols with our memo of recommendations, which is now being implemented by USDA-NRCS

  • Shaped messaging and questions for the Hearing, "Economic Opportunities for Farmers through Sustainable Agricultural Practices" in the House

  • Advised the Senate on new legislation that would expand the 45Q tax code to provide a credit to farmers who sequester carbon in agricultural soils

  • Submitted comments to the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, recommending a suite of practical, non-partisan policies that focus on soil health as a critical tool for resilience and risk-mitigation

  • Prepared a landscape analysis of all "soil health" and "resilience" bills currently introduced in Congress in partnership with Harvard's Food Law & Policy Clinic

  • Presented an analysis of major soil health assessment initiatives in the U.S. at Soil Health Institute's Annual Meeting and to stakeholders around the country, helping to identify where alignment exists and which actions can be taken now

  • Took over 60 meetings with Congressional offices including members of the Agriculture Committee and the Ag-Appropriations Subcommittee in both the House and Senate

  • Traveled and continued listening to the diverse perspectives of farmers and ranchers across the country

  • Launched our Soil to Table Salon series, bringing the policy of good food and farming to the dinner table and our communities

As an organization, you've probably heard us talk about our commitment to using existing infrastructure (and not reinventing the wheel), finding common ground and building support across the political spectrum.

Land Core is at the forefront of the national conversation about soil health, and with your help, can continue to play a leading role in advancing a range of projects and federal policies that will bring about a new regenerative, American agriculture.

Please help us keep doing this work!

With gratitude,

Aria & Harley

P.S. This Thursday, December 5th, is World Soil Day!
