Land Core Launches New Federal Soil Health Bill Tracker
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Interactive Web-Based Tool Increases Access to Policy Information for Soil Health Advocates and Farmers
GRASS VALLEY, CA (April 6, 2023)—Attention, soil health enthusiasts, farmers, and food and ag policy pros! Land Core, a pioneering non-profit committed to advancing soil health policies and programs in the US, is excited to unveil a transformative upgrade to their Federal Soil Health Bill Tracker. With a focus on making policy information more accessible to all, this user-friendly, dynamic web-based tool brings federal soil health policy to life.
"With the Farm Bill fast approaching, policymakers are increasingly recognizing the economic and resilience benefits of soil health. We wanted to provide an unbiased, non-partisan, trusted resource that allows anyone who cares about food and farming to understand the policy landscape and stay up to date," said Land Core’s Co-Founder and Executive Director, Aria McLauchlan.
Starting as a spreadsheet, Land Core's new Bill Tracker is now an user-friendly, interactive tool that lists soil health-related bills introduced into Congress (dating back to the 116th), complete with concise summaries and impartial impact analyses.
"If you want to know what's going on in the DC policy world related to soil health and resilient agricultural systems, this is a fantastic resource with multiple ways to filter and search for the info you need," said Matthew Dillon, Founder of Risk to Resilience Strategy.
The tracker already features over 40 bills introduced into the 118th Congress, with many more bills expected to be introduced or reintroduced in preparation for the reauthorization of the Farm Bill. This fresh approach makes it easy for anyone to stay informed about the latest policy developments in soil health and agriculture.
The bill tracker's new "Legislators" section adds another layer of insight. Users can explore the soil health-related bills sponsored by individual members of Congress, search by representatives from specific states, or even identify the most dedicated soil health champions.
This comprehensive tool also highlights legislators with a track record of bipartisan collaboration on soil health issues and includes over 260 legislators who have supported bipartisan bills. The bill tracker highlights Land Core’s long-held belief that soil health is a “common ground” policy issue, which people can now see in detail through this new tool. A recent report from Yale found that 84% of registered voters (including 91% of moderate Republicans and 92% of moderate Democrats) support "providing federal funding to help farmers improve practices to protect and restore the soil".
Including a broad range of issues that impact soil health, from conservation to regional processing infrastructure and local food systems, the new Bill Tracker empowers a range of stakeholders to engage in meaningful advocacy.
Land Core is a 501(c)3 organization with a mission to advance soil health programs and policies that create value for farmers, businesses and communities. We are hyper-focused on soil health, understanding that it is a keystone issue that directly solves a plethora of urgent economic and natural resource-related issues. We believe that creating the necessary infrastructure and market-based economic incentives will make the rapid adoption and scalability of regenerative soil health possible.

Bill Tracker How-To:
Use the toggle to move between the tracker’s two main features: bills and legislators.
Bills: Filter by relevance to soil health (core and secondary), chamber, party support, Congress, bill type, and issue area to find legislation of interest to you. For example, you could use the tracker to produce a shortlist of core, bipartisan bills in the 117th Congress that relate to crop insurance.
Legislators: See which soil health-related bills each member of Congress is sponsoring. You can search for specific bills by individual representatives, by all members from a given state, or find potential soil health champions by seeing which member has the most soil health related legislation. You can even discover which legislators have the most bipartisan soil health related bills in Congress.
Continue to check back as we refine the tracker, and add new bills. We’d also appreciate your feedback - including any bugs!
