Land Core Advocates for Building Soil Health through the Inflation Reduction Act
Grass Valley, CA: Today, Land Core, in partnership with Kiss the Ground and 152 other farms, organizations, and businesses, advocated for the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding for USDA-NRCS conservation programs to back regenerative agriculture.
The $20 billion for climate-smart conservation represents a historic opportunity to shift towards a more resilient and regenerative agriculture system while meeting the IRA’s mandates.
Land Core helped to develop and compile the recommendations, which were submitted in response to USDA-NRCS’ request for input by the 113 members of the Regenerate America™ coalition, including Land Core, and an additional 39 non-coalition organizations and businesses. The coalition represents businesses and organizations across the country amplifying the voices of farmers and ranchers.
The letter calls for targeting practices and programs to advance regenerative agriculture and soil health, including bundling key practices, access to soil health equipment and testing, standardized monitoring systems, education, training (for producers and agency staff), and technical assistance. The NRCS should also simplify program delivery and provide equitable access for historically underserved producers.
The goal is to deploy all funds authorized for FY2023, serve more American farmers and ranchers looking to adopt soil health practices, and create a more resilient, profitable agriculture system that is also good for the environment.
Land Core and The Regenerate America™ coalition are ready to work with NRCS to ensure swift and impactful implementation of IRA funds for regenerative agriculture.
